International students travelling to Alberta need several important documents. You will have to obtain some of these before you can apply for others, so time your applications carefully.
Before You Leave
Before you leave, arrange for:
- A valid passport for your country of origin that expires several months after you plan to return home from your studies in Alberta
- A letter of acceptance from your higher education institution
- Proof you can pay for your studies in Alberta, through either:
- Financial assistance, if you received it
- Copies of bank statements
- Travel health insurance
- A Canadian study permit
Members of your family travelling with you will also need to present identification and a Canadian temporary resident visa (if required) at the border.
If you are unsure if you qualify for a study permit in Canada, find out if you are eligible to apply.
